Den Haag, 27 August 2025 – On Sunday, 24 August, on the occasion of the Ukrainian Independence Day, the European Evangelical Alliance (EEA) joined churches and Christians across Europe in prayer for Ukraine. In the days preceding, the EEA had called upon its members and churches throughout Europe to intercede for peace and justice. Many responded positively, demonstrating deep solidarity with the people of Ukraine.
The General Secretary of the EEA, Rev. Jan Wessels, and the incoming President, Mr. Andreas Wenzel, were present in Kyiv to attend the official celebrations of Independence Day. On Monday, 25 August, they also participated in the National Prayer Breakfast, held under the patronage of His Excellency President Volodymyr Zelensky, together with church leaders, mission leaders, and NGO leaders from across Europe and beyond.
Both occasions were marked by a strong sense of unity and hope. Prayers were offered for an end to the war and for justice and peace for the Ukrainian people, who continue to suffer deeply under the unprovoked and unjust invasion by the Russian Federation. Special prayers were raised for the thousands of children who have been abducted and displaced, for the wounded, for orphans, and for all who have lost loved ones. Particular attention was also given to Christians living in occupied territories, facing pressure and persecution.
The European Evangelical Alliance reaffirms its commitment to stand with Ukraine in prayer and advocacy, calling on its members and partners to continue to uphold the nation and its people before God.
